Ser vs Estar Read, Draw & Write Activities
This sequential 4 activity sets focuses on introducing students to the difference in usage between the Spanish verbs SER and ESTAR (to be).
This product includes the following activities;
1. Concept Attainment Activity - students cut and paste Spanish sentences onto cards explaining the different reasons for the usage of SER and ESTAR.
2. Read, Conjugate, Draw Activity - Students fill in blank sentences with correct forms of the verbs SER & ESTAR, then illustrate the meaning of each sentence to demonstrate comprehension.
3. Side-by-Side Writing Prompt - Students will read a brief story in Spanish about a boy named Pablo who has an evil twin (weird, I know, but they love this stuff). Using the original story as a model, they will change the information to talk about the evil twin and invent his character in Spanish.
4. Open-Ended Writing Prompts - This activity uses two visual images for support as students apply the knowledge they have gained to write their own paragraphs using the verbs SER and ESTAR appropriately.
Color by Verb - Spanish Preterite Tense
These 5 puzzles offer a twist on the traditional color by number by utilizing conjugated verbs in place of the numbers. Students use the key to color the picture according to the verb endings. This helps improve recognition of vocabulary and verb tenses.
In addition to the color by verb activity, each puzzle also contains an application or synthesis activity in which students must tell the meanings of conjugated verbs or fit them into sentences.

Spanish Whodunnit: Description & Clothing Activities
The crime rate has been soaring in the small town of Puebla Panqueques, but no need to worry, Policía Pacho is on the job!
Your students will read witness statements and help Policía Pacho pick out the correct suspect from a line up. Spanish Vocabulary Sorting Activities
30 different sorting activities (enough to use roughly once a week during the school year) to help Spanish students make connections between words, brainstorm for writing, or practice new vocabulary. Their versatility, ease of use, and the fact that they differentiate themselves make them one of my favorite things to use in my own classroom!
Each activity contains 4 different categories which students must complete with words that they know and fit each category. These are a quick, easy way for students to recycle vocabulary that they have previously learned or integrate vocabulary they are currently studying.
They can also be used to gauge a student's progress in acquiring language when compared over the school year and they differentiate themselves!
These work well as a class starter or closing activity. Once students have completed an activity, it is easy to use their work as a jumping off point for writing tasks or inspiration for oral drill and conversation.
Use them when you need a sub plan and ask students to write a paragraph or sentences as a follow up activity! These are low prep and ready to print and go! You can even skip the print step and just display them for students!

Spanish Phonics & Pronunciation Activities
These activities help students learn the basics of Spanish phonics with scaffolded activities that focus on a variety of letter sounds in Spanish. Often taken for granted, instruction in phonics is a great way to jumpstart the listening and pronunciation skills of beginning learners.
Each activity targets a different set of letter sounds, beginning with sounds that are easy for native English speakers and progressing to sounds that are more difficult to identify or easy to confuse. Students will listen to the pronunciation of 12 words within each of the 7 activities and are asked to insert the correct letters that are representative of those sounds.
Included with each word is also a picture definition so that students can begin to acquire some basic vocabulary. When the activities are complete, they may be added to a notebook or binder as a picture dictionary for students to keep.

Peppa Pig Spanish Listening Activities
These activities accompany free episodes of Peppa the Pig in Spanish (Youtube links provided). In each episode, students will listen for and match 8-10 of the most frequently heard words to their English meanings. Then, students will fill in sentences in Spanish with these same missing words. Finally, students will respond to basic comprehension questions, in Spanish, about the episode that also focus on these high frequency words.
Cartoons are the perfect way to get students used to hearing and understanding Spanish. The speech is cartoons is clear and easily understood since they are made for children. The grammatical structures are simple as well, and words are often repeated a number of times. The visuals provided in the cartoon help students to predict meanings and focus in on particular objects and actions.

Spanish Time (La Hora) Activities
Are you looking for ways to have your students practice telling at what time things are scheduled in real life situations? This group of activities focuses on just that with the use of authentic materials and real world situations.
The power point notes explain the process of telling time in Spanish and allow students scaffolded, guided practice as they learn.
In the first activity, students will read sentences that describe at what time a students has each class and label that student's schedule accordingly.
In the second activity, students will send written "text messages" to a friend discussing their class times.
In the third activity, students will use real movie listings to decide and explain when the next showing that they can attend will be.
In the fourth activity, students take on the role of an employee at a bus station in Mexico. They must inform customers of the next bus departure for various cities using a real bus schedule.

Corrida de Toros & Bullfighting Culture Unit
This unit was created to increase students' cultural awareness of both The Running of the Bulls and the Spanish tradition of bullfighting. Amidst the culture, there are also opportunities for students to apply Spanish vocabulary and grammar concepts in a variety of activities. One of the highlights of this unit is the Corrida de Toros board game which serves as a summative activity to the unit and tests students cultural knowledge.
The readings and activities in this unit can be used with a variety of levels and in a variety of ways. Jigsaws, stations, extension learning, substitute lesson plans, and classwork/homework are just a few ways in which this unit could be delivered.
This cultural unit aligns with the ACTFL indicators for cultural knowledge. There are also activities that align with the Novice or Intermediate indicators for language indicators. El Día de los Reyes Magos
This printable Power Point presentation offers students important cultural information about "El Día de los Reyes Magos" and invites them to participate in virtual activities that simulate different facets of the holiday celebration.
Students will learn about Melchor, Gaspar, and Baltasar and how they figure into the Christmas season in Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries. They will read about the large festival in Mexico City at Alameda Park and write their own brief letter to the Three Kings. They will acquire vocabulary related to the holiday and use it to complete a variety of activities and exercises.
Your students will love choosing a piece of a virtual Rosca de Reyes and seeing if they found the figure of el niño Jesús in one of two interactive activities. Introductions Spanish Listening Activities
These activities were created to assist Novice language learners in developing skills related to ACTFL modes of communication, with an emphasis on the mode of interpretive listening in the context of Spanish greetings and introductions.
The activities that accompany the audio recordings were created to allow teachers to easily differentiate and target specific skills.
“E” Activities – these activities are presented in English and focus on students being able to demonstrate comprehension of the audio sample.
“S” Activities – these activities are presented in Spanish and ask students to respond in Spanish. They will allow students to improve presentational writing and/or speaking skills (if done orally) as well as aural recognition of vocabulary.
“A” Activities – these activities focus on using context to predict word meanings and general vocabulary knowledge.
“B” Activities – these activities focus on making inferences about the person or situation presented in the audio samples.
“C” Activities – these activities, presented in English, assist students in making cultural connections to the information presented in the audio sample.
This resource deals with the theme of introductions in Spanish and includes:
